I said in my previous post about the undying Brenda Barrett return rumors that I wouldn’t talk about it anymore until there’s a confirmation that Vanessa Marcil is really coming back to General Hospital to reprise her role. While there’s still no official word from the camp of Vanessa and Guza, it seems Brenda Barrett is not showing up in Port Charles anytime soon. Soap Central reports that Vanessa just landed a primetime gig with CBS network. Vanessa is set to appear in the show Without A Trace. She will play a character named Kim Marcus. She could also be a potential love interest for Eric Close’s character, Martin. Vanessa Marcil will appear on the show starting March 17th. She is set to appear for 3 episodes.

I know some of us would like to see Vanessa come back to Port Charles but speaking for myself, and I’ve always said this whenever Soap stars leave the show to further their career, I wish them all the best. Soap stars are a talented bunch so they deserve to spread their wings and see what else is out there. If they come back, good, if they don’t, well, that’s good too .

There is another round of rumors regarding a comeback of Brenda Barrett  (Vanessa Marcil) in Port Charles. This time around, Vanessa Marcil apparently confirmed it herself on the new issue of Soap Opera Digest. Vanessa is supposedly in talks with Guza on bringing back Brenda into the canvas again. They tried to last year but nothing came through. So maybe it will finally happen this year. But then again, just because they’re talking about it that doesn’t mean it will happen.

So until then, I’m not going to speculate, or predict any storylines that surrounds the Brenda Barrett character. Until all the i’s and t’s have been dotted and crossed, this is the last time you’ll hear me talk about a Brenda Barrett comeback to Port Charles.

I love Vanessa Marcil and her GH alter ego Brenda Barrett but do we really need her to come back at this point? Jax and Kate could very well be hooking up as we speak :). Sonny and Carly, well, they always end up together. One way or another. As far as TPTB is concerned Sonny is always going to be Carly’s babysDaddy :). Where would Brenda fit in? Laura Wright once intimated that unless she sees Brenda in the flesh, she won’t feel any danger looming around Jax and Carly’s relationship. Not yet anyway. Wait ’till Jax finds out that she and Sonny did it(they will right?) in the limo. So back to the question, where would Brenda Barrett fit in all these storylines?

From the new issue of Soaps In Depth magazine, Natalia Livingston states her reasons, vaguely I might add, for leaving General Hospital. Apparently, She and TPTB had been discussing hew future with the Soaps for months now. Natasha said she would love to pursue other options in her career. Mainly, PRIMETIME. You know what, I do understand that. She’s a very talented actress and a sweet person to boot. I don’t have a problem with her leaving the show to further her career. Vanessa Marcil and Josh Duhamel did it. Amber Tamblyn who she replaced for the Emily Quartermaine character is also doing marvelous in Hollywood. Amber left a big shoes for Natalia to fill but she did it successfully. She won an Emmy for it. So I’m not bitter at all that Natalia felt she had to go. What I’m mad about is the fact that GH decided to kill the Emily character off altogether. As I and everybody else has pointed out, they could’ve brought a recast. It’s a HUGE shoes to fill but I’d rather have a recast than kill someone who is such an integral part of the Port Charles canvas. Especially with Emily’s love affair with Nikolas. Their love is timeless.

According to Soaps In Depth, Aug. 28 issue, Alyssa Milano’s mom confirmed that NO, Alyssa is not going to be working in General Hospital anytime soon as rumors claimed she would. She is not going to be the recast for Brenda Barrett’s character. As much as I would love for Alyssa to take over the character that Vanessa Marcil made notorious, I just don’t see Alyssa’s star power going to daytime. No offense to daytime of course. Don’t get me wrong. I mean I love my daytime soaps and actors. It’s just too crazy of a news. I still think Rebecca Budig, ex-Greenlee(AMC), ex-Michelle(GL) would be a perfect Brenda recast.
