General Hospital : Why I Like Carly & Kate

July 16, 2008 by Dexie

See, unlike other soaps fans, I can like both without hating the other. Hmm, maybe not in the case of Sam and Liz. I can’t stand Liz..heeh. Anyhoo, Carly and Kate. Each character could irritate me up the ying yang but that just adds the likeable factor even more in my book. Kinda like friends. You want to strangle them sometimes for doing stupid things but in the end you’ll support them no matter what. Well, except for when they start sleeping with your ex or current partner.. Hehe. Now that’s another story.

Ok, back to Carly and Kate. Why I like them both.

Laura-Wright-fcw08_nc Carly, I seriously never liked this character. Not during Sarah Brown’s tenure or Tamara Braun either. She’s actually the reason why I endured Reva Shayne from CBS’s Guiding Light because I didn’t want to watch her self-righteous scheming behind every day. Ironically, Laura Wright played Cassie in GL during those times too. Not until Laura Wright took over Carly did I finally understand what makes this character tick. Laura’s interpretation made sense to me. I saw the heart underneath all the screaming, yelling, scheming, manipulation, childishness and hypocrisy. Her predecessors were great but Laura is Carly to me. Yesterday showed once again why I love this woman. She loves flowers and junk food. That is so me. Sure diamonds are nice and Jax could very well shower her in swarovski crystals  or Tiffany’s everyday but he knows his wife loves them cheesy things. I love my Flaming Hot Cheetos myself. And Hot Wings which happens to be Carly’s favorite as well. I like a woman who can wear heels and not afraid to eat junk food.

Megan-Ward-soapnet-emmys-party_nc Kate, well, she feeds my fashionista side. Not to mention, she’s reasonable and mature compare to the other women In Port Charles. Forget for a minute that she’s just as obsessed with Sonny like the previous women he’s been with but who else should Megan Ward be paired with? She’d be great with Ingo Rademacher’s Jax but see, opposites attract. Kate and Jax mingle in the same crowd. They’ll be boring by the end of next week. Kate can be snotty too which drives Carly crazy. The latter needs to get off her own pedestal once in a while. Kate does that. And I’m pretty sure she loves finer things in life. there’s nothing wrong with that either.

As far as I’m concerned, Carly and Kate are great. They both represent different sides of me. Except for their love of Mob of course. Maybe they’ll be BFF someday..LOL.

While LW is a good actress, I am still partial to Carly 1 and 2.

It’s obvious GH writers were looking for an antithesis with the Kate character. I can’t wait until Carly finds out that Kate is old-school Sonny. Nothing will annoy her more!

BTW, I wonder if Carly would allow Jax to name their child…Peanut? :P

I love Carly. It was a gradual progress. But she wins you over. I love her quirks, and her devotion to her friends.

Kate is annoying. She always wants to blame Carly for everything rather than take responsibility for her part. And even though she says all the right things, the powers that be keep having Kate show up at Carly’s door at all the wrong times. Despite my love of fashion, Kate’s going to have to do something else to keep me glued to the tv.

Mare, with Jax money, at least use “macadamia” :)

Waverly, yup Kate annoys me too but then Carly annoys me also. They balance each other out..LOL.

  5. Sorry to have to say this, but I cannot stomach Laura Wright’s portrayal of Carly. She’s no actress. Tamara Braun brought out the humanity in Carly instead of being all self rigteous and there is no heart to LW’s Carly. That left after Tamara Braun exited the building. With Tamara’s Carly, the rough edges Brown put there were ironed out to create a heart and soul to the character. That heart and soul are now gone due to the writing of Bob Guza JR. who THINKS he’s finally found his Carly. Only not. Again, any heart the character had left with Tamara Braun. Now she’s back to being plainly bitchy.
