All My Children : Rebecca Budig Bashing Needs To Stop
First of all, I like Sabine Singh. She’s a talented actress. And she looks like a sweet lady. I say this with utmost respect. What and How ABC has gone through this whole campaign on bringing Rebecca Budig back as the REAL Greenlee is insensitive, underhanded and disrespectful. I’ve read all sorts of comments and assumptions on how Sabine was fired. How Rebecca Budig “stole” her job back. Blah blah blah.
Unless you were in the room when the negotiations were done, you don’t know what went on. Unless you were in the living room when Rebecca Budig supposedly called Brian Frons for her job back after denying it for years, then you don’t know what really happened. Unless you were with the writers when they wrote a storyline to finally convince Rebecca to come back, you don’t know exactly what convinced Rebecca. Unless you’re a freaking lawyer who put all those nitty gritty clause on the contract to make everything look good for Rebecca to come back, they you don’t know the business side of it.
Just because you were not in the focus group that studied on how the character Greenlee is supposed to be written, acted, or whatever, then you don’t know how ABC conducted their surveys or fans opinions. If there even was a focus group of course.
Unless you live with Rebecca Budig and her husband, you don’t know who she really is. Unless you’re one of her friends, you don’t know whether her personality is just like the spoiled brat Greenlee. Greenlee Smythe is a soap character. Rebecca Budig is the person. Try to recognize the difference between the actress who played the character for years from the character itself. Unless of course we’re talking about Susan Lucci and Erica Kane. I can’t tell the difference with those two. Well acting wise anyway. Erica’s 11(?) divorces is different from La Lucci’s solid marriage.
I like Sabine Singh. I was informed of a site in support of her. I initially thought of checking it out but decided in the end not to. I’m entitled to change my mind. I don’t want to get in between the drama trying to make one actress look bad in support of the other one. Rebecca Budig and Sabine Singh are both great in my opinion. I understand that Brian Frons and his ABC minions are not beyond screwing someone over to make a point just like what they did to Cady/Dixie. But none of this is Rebecca Budig’s fault. She’s an actress who was pursued for years and months even though they already have an actress playing the character. Obviously, even after Sabine was hired they still wished, hoped and worked damn hard to get Rebecca back. She’s an actress. Her fruitless(except for a few) effort to make it outside of daytime is unfortunate because she is a talented actress. These days, you have to be a D-List wanna-be porn star with a sex tape in circulation to get famous and a reality show on Bravo or MTV/VH1. It’s sick what’s going on in Hollywood these days. Talentless whores are being put on pedestal because stupid people prefer watching someone more screwed up than they are. You can not blame Rebecca for taking a job. A job that will pay her well enough to live, and maybe raise a family with her husband. The woman has bills to pay.
Brian wanted her back. He made it impossible for her to say no, again. Like I said, their campaign is insensitive towards Sabine Singh but that does not fall on Rebecca’s shoulders. That’s the management and production’s responsibility. They hired Rebecca to do her job and that’s what she’s doing these days.
So leave her alone. Coz once again, unless you are Rebecca’s husband, friends, ex-boyfriends, parents, dogs, agents, manager, Lawyer or even neighbors, then you don’t really know who she is. If you’re going to argue otherwise then I could also assume Sabine is just as pathetic, and spineless as Greenlee is these days. Right? EXACTLY!

Dexie, I’ll respond to your commentary to stop bashing Rebecca not that I have bashed her. I prefer Sabine as Greenlee and I’m not happy that Rebecca is returning. I have stated MY belief and opinions regarding this whole ugly mess. I agree with you that none of us know what really happened between Rebecca and Frons since we weren’t there. I noticed in your commentary you stated your opinion and belief such as the following statement referring to Rebecca:

This is YOUR opinion and belief because unless you were there as you said in your commentary, you don’t know if Frons/ABC pursued Rebecca once Sabine was in the role OR if Rebecca asked for her job back. You state this as if it is a proven fact rather than what Rebecca and Frons said happened. You can accept Rebecca and Fron’s statement as the gospel but I don’t have to and this is not bashing Rebecca.
On the one hand you say people need to stop bashing Rebecca (as if Sabine hasn’t been bashed too) because they don’t know her but you turn right around and bash others with your comment below:

Two wrongs don’t make a right and I don’t think that statement was right at all because you’re bashing people you don’t know (or maybe you do). Talk about BASHING! Bashing these individuals don’t’ help Rebecca or make her look any better. Before you proceed to lecture others about bashing you should make sure that you aren’t guilty of doing the same thing. Not everyone is good friends with an executive in a high level position at a network who can perhaps pull strings for them.
Many viewers such as myself aren’t happy to see Rebecca return as Greenlee and I can imagine that this is a disappointment as well as a shocking surprise to Frons and Rebecca among others. Frons bear the lion share of the blame for this fiasco but as I have stated, Rebecca isn’t completely blameless either and again this is my opinion.

Funny because I’ve seen posts from people saying Sabine can’t act, never had any fans until she got fired, lied about who wrote the letter on the ABC boards, and all sorts of other equally inappropriate and ridiculous accusations. The bashing is going on from both sides and it does need to stop. I think Rebecca’s fans want to somehow place her in the role of a VICTIM so they exaggerate the amount of bashing and mistake criticism for personal attacks, so they can feel a little (or a lot) less bad for Sabine. They blame HER because some of her fans are being hard on Rebecca.
I don’t know why Rebecca’s fans want to make her into a victim, but there has been bashing from both sides and posts like yours victimizing Rebecca are not productive. No, nobody should be bashing. But this is the nature of the internet there will always be some ugliness. There has been PLENTY of ugliness from Rebecca’s fans, too, but no surprise that that is not addressed on THIS site. It’s not an exactly “neutral” blog.

Sarah….you are absolutely correct! This blogger acts like only Sabine’s fans are doing any kind of bashing. Well, Rebecca’s fans have been bashing Sabine ever since she took on the role of Greenlee, and even now that Rebecca is returning. Why isn’t that addressed in this blog? IMO, Rebecca is FAR from being a victim….Sabine is the ONLY victim in this sordid mess.

I agree Sarah, there have been hateful things said on both sides-and while it is not right-it does demonstrate how passionate people are about their fav. I don’t get why only side was addressed here-it makes me wonder if the poll will still be sent to ABC if it doesn’t end the way they want.

And I obviously want to say that I’m not CONDONING bashing of Rebecca when I point out that Sabine has been bashed as well. I’m just pointing out that they have been both bashed and I don’t understand the call to cease the Rebecca bashing while completely ignoring that Sabine too has had some wicked stuff said about her.

Mary J, I wasn’t bashing the d-list crap on TV, it’s the fact and it’s the truth. You’re over analyzing this post just to suit your opinions but whatever.
Sarah, Catherine and Renee, those bashings aren’t done here. It’s somewhere else. The majority of post in this site have been in favor of SS. A few that are in favor of RB have also stated how much they think ABC is being disrespectful. I’ve had to delete all sorts of mean comments regarding RB which prompted me to post this.
This isn’t ABC.com message boards where people think they have free reign on everything.

Mary J, just so you know, I never bashed Sabine here. Even if I like Rebecca, I never once said anything bad about Sabine. If you read the comments regarding RB’s comeback, there’s a lot of them bashing RB, making assumptions on how she got her job back, how she’s not talented blah blah blah. Most comments posted her are all pretty much how much everybody loves Sabine. The only one who’s really vocal about defending RB is Sharon and that’s only because she feels she must speak up on RB’s defense and dammit, she like her.
It just amazes me how I’m being accused of not being neutral when you and others are still able to post comments here, even questioning my integrity and credibility. If that’s the truth, trust me, you’d all have been banned a long time ago but I’m not that kind of blogger. Once again, I like Sabine. I think she’s a talented actress. Sorry this thing happened. Just because I happened to like RB that doesn’t equate to bashing.
RB has been bashed here. Sabine is bashed somewhere else. I can only address what happens here. If you guys have a problem with that, oh well….

Dexie, I didn’t say that you bashed Sabine but that you bashed others in your commentary which you dismissed as my over analyzing your comments to suit my opinion. Wrong. I simply quoted your words back to you.
I’ve seen some not so nice things said about both Sabine and Rebecca but like I said, your commentary only mentioned that the bashing of Rebecca needs to stop.
What I’ve seen others do is the same thing you are doing, make assumptions or speculate about how and why Rebecca came to get her old job back at AMC. You emphatically state that ABC and Frons pursued Rebecca as if you know this for a fact rather than your belief based on what Rebecca and Frons have said is what happened.
When someone has expressed their preference about an issue one way or the other, I do take that into consideration when they post or say something. I try to respect other people’s opinions because we don’t all disagree and that’s fine, we don’t and shouldn’t have to.
And as you can tell, I’m not a yes person who is going to echo somone else’s opinion as if I can’t think and make up my own mind using common sense based on what I know and the surrounding circumstances.

Dexie you’re not being neutral. You’re happy Rebecca’s back and that’s very clear, you’re ignoring that Sabine has been bashed by making posts victimizing Rebecca, you’ve said yourself you choose not to support a positive campaign to let ABC know Sabine was appreciated & people would like to see her back soon. How is that neutral?
There’s nothing wrong with having a preference but you’re slanting things to put Sabine’s fans in a negative light because some have come here with not-so-nice things to say about the actress THEY perceive as being responsible for SS leaving. It’s not right but it’s to be expected– RB has the job that a lot of us preferred Sabine in. Sabine has been bashed and judged and criticized as well, and that’s no more acceptable than the bashing of Rebecca. It’s not neutral to single out one group of fans rather than just say, ALL BASHING NEEDS TO STOP.
But yes it’s your blog you can write and assert whatever you want but please do not convince yourself that people who read this blog see you as being neutral. It just is very obvious you’re not. If you think that’s an attack that’s up to you, but I’m happy and proud to say I prefer SS as Greenlee, I support her, I’m in no way neutral in my feelings that RB should not have come back, and there’s nothing wrong with me feeling this way. Just like there’s nothing wrong with you admitting you feel all those those things about Rebecca.

AAAH. I’m sick of the whole argument, and yes I know that I’m new to this blog commentary, but it’s everywhere. I have to agree with those who said that it was really hard to find someone who liked Sabine Singh before this whole situation, now to hear most tell it, she’s the greatest actress AMC has ever known, and what that tells me is that there’s a lot of underdog lovers. There’s nothing wrong with that, but the insinuations that “Rebecca stole a job” are ridiculous. It was offered. The blame for the tacky situation shouldn’t be on the actors…AT ALL. Rebecca owes NO one their job, and Sabine will find other work, probably hate AMC with a passion and will forget to list the last six months on her resume. And life goes on. Too bad the internet will rehash this as often as possible. Stay strong Dexie, your opinion may not be in the majority, but it has it’s supporters.

has been continuely bashed on this website. Oh and not to say that Sabine is not a decent actress but I think that Rebecca does the part
much better in my opinion!

why do they change her after we get used to her? she was beginning to feel like Greenlee and brought a unique side to the character..that being said, I don’t think ratings will change too much and besides it’s tv land no one really cares. I’m sure Miss Sabine will find her niche.

The above statement about moving on is exactly what I did the day Sabine left.
Not that anyone cares much less this Frons person.After over 30 yrs. of watching AMC,the day Sabine left,so did I.
I am finding I actually enjoy Y@R,B@B over AMC and that the storylines,sets and actors/actress are much more to my tasting.
Personally,I never liked Rebecca in the role of Greenlee. However,Sabine made the character,to me,like the girl next door. Yes it’s all fictional,however,when it comes to entertainment,I choose not to watch actors/actress that I find without talent.
